But what about the child who comes alive with a paintbrush?
Too often, creative kids don't have a team to call their own.
At NextGen Art League, we believe young artists deserve the same sense of belonging, encouragement, and purpose as every young athlete. They deserve coaches who inspire them, teammates who celebrate their ideas, and a community that reminds them their creativity matters.
Art is about so much more than learning to draw.
It teaches perseverance when a painting doesn't go as planned. It builds confidence through practice. It encourages curiosity, problem-solving, observation, patience, and resilience. It helps children share ideas, support one another, and see the world through someone else's eyes.
These are the very same life skills we celebrate in sports.
For more than 22 years, I've watched this happen firsthand.
I've seen shy children become confident leaders. Older students naturally mentor younger artists. I've watched kids proudly talk about "Art Club" the same way their friends talk about soccer practice or basketball games. They weren't just making art—they were finding their people.
Teachers often told me these same students were becoming stronger problem solvers, more confident learners, and more engaged in subjects far beyond the art room.
That's the power of belonging.

The Day I Knew This Worked
When my boys were just four and five years old, we visited the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC.
I expected to spend the afternoon introducing them to famous paintings.
Instead, they took over.
They led my husband by the hand from painting to painting, excitedly naming the artists, pointing out details, and explaining what made each one unique.
"That's a Monet."
"Van Gogh painted that."
"Look how thick his brushstrokes are!"
My husband just stood there, completely amazed. Our little boys had become the docents! People were watching and smiling!
In that moment, I realized I wasn't just teaching children how to paint.
I was giving them the confidence to walk into an art museum and feel like they belonged there.
That feeling has stayed with me ever since.
It's why I created NextGen Art League®.

Every Creative Kid Deserves a Team
Hello, I'm Sheila.
For years, I watched children proudly pull on their soccer jerseys, dance costumes, theater shirts, and team uniforms. They had practices to attend, teammates cheering them on, goals to work toward, and a community that celebrated their passions.
Then I started thinking about the creative kids.
The ones who filled notebooks with sketches, painted at the kitchen table, collected markers instead of medals, and saw the world a little differently.
They deserved a team, too.
As a Montessori school owner & teacher, professional artist, and founder of B-Artsy & Art Chat Magazine, I've spent years helping children discover the joy of creating. Again and again, I watched something incredible happen. A child who believed they "weren't artistic" would finish a project, smile with pride, and quietly say, "I made that."
But I also realized something else.
Creativity grows when it's shared.
When young artists become part of a creative community, they encourage one another, celebrate each other's ideas, learn to give and receive encouragement, and discover that inspiration is even more exciting when it's experienced together. They realize they're not simply making art—they're part of something bigger.
They become more curious.
More confident.
More courageous.
More collaborative.
More willing to dream.
That's why I created NextGen Art League.
I wanted to build more than an art program. I wanted to create a place where creative kids belong—a community where they can learn from great artists, make meaningful projects, celebrate one another's creativity, and grow together.
Because every child deserves to feel seen.
